Policy and backdrop (on/before 4 Sep 2026)

No new Malaysia rate move on Friday. Thursday’s BNM hold at 2.75% was already in the price. The next local catalyst investors were watching was the US August payrolls report due after the Friday Asia close — that kept books light. Middle East / oil headlines and a still-hawkish Fed path remained the external overlay. Foreign institutions had stayed net sellers into early September.

Other news that can affect the market

  • BNM growth view: 1H GDP 5.7%, 2026 growth around 5%.
  • OPR statement tone (dropped “appropriate”) left a later-hike option open; consensus still saw November as another hold.
  • Construction still had Gamuda data-centre contract support from earlier in the week.
  • Week context: Tuesday’s 1.47% drop to 1,700.54, then Wednesday–Thursday repair, Friday give-back.

Read-through

A two-day bounce stalled under 1,716. Planters that led Wednesday were sold; F&N and Nestlé bounced. Zetrix stayed the volume name. ACE outran the KLCI.

Support: 1,700–1,705. Resistance: 1,715–1,725. Next session after this print is Monday, 7 September.
