The FBM KLCI put in its best session in days on Tuesday, 22 September 2026. The index closed at 1,683.50, up 16.56 points or 0.99% from Monday’s 1,666.94. Open 1,669.74, high 1,684.34, low 1,665.23. That recaptures the 1,670–1,680 band Rakuten had been watching.
Breadth was clean: 678 gainers vs 458 losers. Turnover 3.57 billion shares, value RM3.15 billion. FBM Mid 70 and FBM Emas both rose hard with the benchmark — not another mid-cap-only day.

Policy and global cues (on/before 22 Sep 2026)
No new BNM decision. OPR still 2.75%. Last week’s Fed hike (3.75–4.00%) and BoJ hike (1.25%) remain the rate backdrop.
Trump–Xi: investors positioned for a Washington meeting later this week. Risk appetite improved with Asia. Brent slipped toward/below US$100 as Hormuz flows looked more stable — that eased the inflation overlay that had been crushing the KLCI. US tech strength overnight helped semiconductors (MPI, MI).
Rakuten range for the rest of the week: 1,670–1,700.
Read-through
This is the first proper bounce after the post-Fed, post-Malaysia Day grind lower. Banks and healthcare did the index work; energy/consumer names still mixed. 1,684 high is the first test. A hold above 1,670 keeps the repair trade alive; a fail opens 1,655 again.
Support: 1,670 then 1,661. Resistance: 1,684–1,700.
