KUALA LUMPUR – The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) closed above 1,600 points on Monday, August 25, 2025. The benchmark index gained 4.98 points (0.31%) to finish at 1,602.45. This was the index’s third consecutive day of gains.
Global Markets Boost KLCI
Positive news from the United States helped drive the market up. The U.S. Federal Reserve chairman’s recent remarks suggested an interest rate cut could happen as soon as September. This positive outlook for global interest rates boosted investor confidence worldwide, and the KLCI followed the trend.
Key Stock Movements
While more stocks declined than advanced, a few heavyweights pushed the index higher. Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd (MPI) led the charge with a significant gain of RM2.08. Nestle (Malaysia) Bhd and United Plantations Bhd also performed well. On the other hand, Magma Group was the most traded stock by volume, but its price fell.
Foreign Investors Return
Foreign investors bought Malaysian stocks for the first time in 21 sessions. They injected a total of RM178 million into the market. This renewed foreign interest, combined with strong support from local institutions, signals growing optimism for Malaysian equities.
Looking Ahead: Policy and Economy
The government is finalizing plans for the RON95 subsidy. Parliament also passed the Atomic Energy Licensing (Amendment) Bill 2025. While these are important, the market is more focused on the economy. The Malaysian Leading Index, a key economic indicator, slipped slightly in June. Despite this, analysts are confident in Malaysia’s economic strength. Upcoming Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) are also expected to support the market in the second half of the year.
