Malaysia’s FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (KLCI) recovered from a one-day drop on Monday, rising 0.2% to settle at 1,636.54. This gain marked a positive shift for the index, which had been on a downward trend the previous day.
Among the top performers, energy firm Dialog Group saw its shares climb by 3.2%, leading the session. Retail chain 99 Speed Mart Retail followed with a 2.5% gain, while Petronas Dagangan, also in the energy sector, rounded out the top three gainers with a 1.9% increase.
On the flip side, Genting Malaysia, which operates in the leisure, arts, and hospitality sector, saw the largest decline of 3.4%. Nestle (Malaysia) shares fell 2.0%, and Genting, another leisure and hospitality company, also dropped by 2.0%.
Across Southeast Asia, Singapore’s FTSE Straits Times Index rose by 0.6%, while the Philippines’ PSEi Index inched up 0.2%. Indonesia’s JSX Composite Index recorded a 0.5% increase. However, the Bursa Malaysia was closed.
Elsewhere in Asia-Pacific markets, the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong dropped 0.7%, while the Shanghai Composite Index gained 2.1%. South Korea’s KOSPI Composite Index added 1.0%, and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 rose by 0.5%.
In currency news, the U.S. dollar strengthened by 0.2% to 429.40 Malaysian sen, and the euro edged up 0.1% to 4.70 ringgit.
